This is a sojourn into the heart of Bhutan where modernization has barely changed life and landscape. We meet Bhutan’s oldest – unfortunately vanishing – tribe called the Monpa. We meet local people who will receive us with elaborate traditional customs into their homes and perform their folk songs and dances for us. Above all, we enter the most primeval stretch of nature reserve home to several species of wild cats and a multitude of birds. At no other place can one get as close to nature as we will during this trek where the sub-tropics meet the temperate zone of Bhutan.
• Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, the home of numerous bird and plant species, and mammals like tiger, leopard, and golden langur
• Meet the Monpas – just a handful today but still the earliest inhabitants of Bhutan whose lifestyle has barely changed in a thousand years.
• Experience rural life and local culture as we delve into villages in the centremost region of Bhutan
• See the stone pillar at Nabji where in the 8th century a truce was brokered between two warring kings by the great Buddhist saint Padmasambhava.
